A Flashback on Fantastic

Great script. Fantastic animation. Awesome soundtrack. Perfect.

NZ-based String Theory, is the genius behind this wonderfully executed promotional video for Good Books, an online bookstore cum Non-Profit Org that donates all profits to Oxfam, an organisation that brings people together to go against poverty.

Created almost 2 years ago, this video was a Cannes Cyber Lions shortlist and winners of various global creative awards.


It is not very often that we have the opportunity to create a graphic equivalent of a drug fueled rant bringing all of our collective skills to bear. And it is almost unfathomable that we could actually do something like this and benefit a good cause.




I’m confused by New Zealand’s new anti-drinking ad

Yeah? Nah? Yes? No?

Say Yeah, Nah. So is that a yes or a no? But this question certainly hit Reddit’s front page.

It’s pretty simple. You say yes at the beginning, but then realised it’s not the right thing to do. So you say No. Yes, DraftFCB got us super confused.

24/7 Accurate Weather

Does this billboard show 100% accuracy of the weather?


MetService [www.metservice.com], a weather site in New Zealand, recently put up this empty billboard frame in Auckland. This gimmick is pretty clever as it puts their objective right out there, as clear as the weather. Real-time weather reports is what they are experts in, and with this empty billboard frame, it certainly proves that. The frame itself is branded through a web browser (notable Apple’s Safari), where the website is clearly stated on the URL space and a search bar that reads ‘real-time weather reports’.

3weathersmetserviceIdea was generated by ad agency Young & Rubicam [www.yr.co.nz] and they even made a case study video to get their idea across the nation.

Well, if the weather is what you are looking for, just open the curtains and have a look yourself. Doesn’t take a billboard to tell you. But I assume that the main purpose of this billboard is to promote their website and increase their SEO optimization. Nonetheless, great effort. It sure took many eyes of the road.

Care to give a guess?

If not, here goes. New Zealand have won more Cannes Lions per capita compared to any country in the world. This was in 2011.

The stats goes like this:

  • New Zealand: 1 Lion per 155,989 residents
  • Sweden: 1 Lion per 202,173 residents

Below is a video done by an Advertising Agency – Special Group [www.specialgroup.co.nz] – in promoting NZ’s achievement in the advertising world. Its humorous of course as they take a swipe at a few other countries. Its worth the watch and dare I say it could be the truth. LOL!
